About

Transforming SHGs into MSMEs

The Transforming SHGs into MSMEs intervention under the RAMP Programme focuses on enabling Self-Help Groups (SHGs) to transition from informal, localized activities into formal, sustainable business enterprises. SHGs play a vital role in the local economy of Goa but often face challenges related to limited market access, lack of formal registration, inadequate branding, and low digital adoption. Implemented by the Directorate of Industries, Trade and Commerce (DITC), this intervention provides structured handholding and capacity-building support to help SHGs unlock their full economic potential and integrate into the MSME ecosystem.

How it Works

Under this intervention, SHGs are guided through a structured transformation process that includes awareness creation, skill development, and formal registration. SHGs receive handholding support for Udyam registration by connecting with Business Facilitation Centers (BFCs) and Women Entrepreneurship Facilitation Cells (WEFCs) established under RAMP. Need-based training programmes focusing on marketing, digital tools, packaging, branding, and export readiness are conducted to strengthen business capabilities. The EDII Goa Centre has been onboarded to organize SHG-focused training programmes, while continuous mentoring ensures that SHGs are able to scale operations, access markets, and function as independent MSMEs.

Impact

The Transforming SHGs into MSMEs intervention contributes to the formalization and economic empowerment of grassroots enterprises in Goa. By enabling SHGs to register as MSMEs and access institutional support, the initiative expands their market reach, improves income stability, and strengthens entrepreneurial confidence. The intervention supports inclusive growth by integrating SHGs into the mainstream MSME ecosystem, fostering employment generation, women participation, and sustainable local economic development in alignment with the objectives of the RAMP Programme.
